Lori Rischer’s philosophy is that living a healthy lifestyle is all about balance. “It’s easier to be happy when you’re healthy”, says Lori, “and when you're happy, you're a nicer person.”
Her journey began when she started doing yoga and noticed her own life and health improved. She wanted to share that experience with other people so she became a teacher. Lori was certified as a Yoga Therapist at Loyola Marymount University with Dr. Larry Payne in their renowned yoga therapy program. She also received a teaching certificate from Earth’s Power Yoga in Los Angeles.
“I’ve always been active, but as I got busier I realized it was harder to find time to take care of myself,” she says. And no truer words could be spoken! Lori has kept incredibly busy as a national radio promotion/marketing executive at Island Def Jam Music Group, working closely with superstars such as: Rihanna, Bon Jovi, Justin Bieber, Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, Neon Trees and Taio Cruz.. She also spent several years at The Firm, one of Hollywood’s top management companies based in Beverly Hills, While there, she signed OneRepublic and was on the management teams of mega artists such as Enrique Iglesias, OneRepublic, Ice Cube, Mandy Moore, Korn and many others. Her work has been widely recognized by the music industry. In fact, she was named the 2010 Promotion Executive Trendsetter by FMQB Magazine and the 2010 Executive of the Year by SIN Magazine.
Combining two of her passions-- Music & Yoga-- Lori teamed up with KIIS-FM and 98.7 (KYSR) to be the Yoga instructor for their popular Yoga On The Pier and Yoga On The Beach summer promotions for the last three years. The series has been named Huffington Posts’ “Five Best Summer Workouts” and was featured in the LA Times, Malibu Magazine, LA Yoga Magazine, Pepperdine Times. “It is the highlight of my summer!” Lori exclaims.
Lori is also the co-creator, co-executive producer and host of the new celebrity health and fitness show from SkeeTV, Rockstar Health & Fitness. “Everyone is interested in people who are in the public eye, so we found an opportunity with Rockstar Health and Fitness to focus on some of their healthy lifestyle secrets,” Lori says. The guest artists include: Patrick Stump (Fall Out Boy), OneRepublic, Canadian superstars Hedley and Kim Glass a 2008 Olympic silver medal winner.
Giving back to the community is another important way Lori wants to create balance and a healthy lifestyle. She supports a number of charities that are very close to her heart. In 2008, Lori received the highest honor from the Make A Wish Foundation, the Chris Greicius Celebrity Award, for her work in helping make wishes come true. She has also lectured at the Make A Wish Worldwide Conference. Additionally, in 2008 she was inducted into the Mentor Hall of Fame and this year, she completed her ninth year as a volunteer working with inner city teenagers for Youth Mentoring Connection. She is also on the Leadership Council for A Place Called Home, a community center in South Los Angeles for at-risk youth. The Los Angeles City Council recently honored Lori for her contributions in making the city a nicer place to live.
Having spent my entire adult life in the music business, I have seen thousands of artist showcases. I have to admit, I am jaded and it is not easy for an artist to really blow me away. I went to see Iggy Azalea perform a few weeks ago and all I can say is OMG!! Not only did she blow me away, I have not stopped talking about her since the show.
Iggy moved to the US from Australia when she was 16 years old. She did whatever it took to work hard and build a life around music. She cleaned hotel rooms, worked in restaurants and during that time she was continuing to work on her music. Her incredible beauty is breathtaking and it's no surprise that she is a top model for the Wilhelmina agency. But it's her live performance and amazing musical talent that will blow you away!! Her ability to rap and dance left me speechless.
Her body is a beautiful work of art, a true inspiration. Her fashion style, on top of everything, takes it all to another level. I couldn't connect with her fast enough to learn her healthy secrets and how she keeps her body in such beautiful shape.
The video for her single "Work" is a must see and the song is perfect for your workout playlist. Here is what I learned from Iggy when we were hanging out at KIIS-FM. Keep an eye out for Iggy Azalea.....she is destined to be a superstar and definitely has what it takes!!
The Awareness Film Festival in Santa Monica was incredible. It was such an honor to host the closing night program and to be a part of an event that is striving to make a difference. As part of a healthy lifestyle, dedicating your personal time to issues important to you helps create balance and gratitude. Thank you to, Heal One World, for putting together so many wonderful films that create awareness on important issues. The first step in effecting change is through awareness. It's encouraging to discover how many people in this world want to make a difference. When I was hosting the Wanderlust "Yoga in the City" event, I met an amazing woman named Skye. She is from The Awareness Film Festival and she asked me if I would host their closing night. I quickly did my research and realized what an honor it would be to be involved. The event takes place this week in LA 7/25-7/28. The Awareness Film Festival awarenessfestival.org is a dynamic festival promoting the awareness of world issues. Bringing together filmmakers, artists, educators, environmentalists, alternative health practitioners and other industry professionals. Chris "Ludacris" Bridges is an amazing and multi talented artist. He is not only a rapper, musician and actor but also an entrepreneur, philanthropist and business man. During his career, Ludacris has sold over 20 million albums in the US and has won three Grammy Awards. On top of his success in the music world he has also made a successful transition into acting. He has been in numerous movies and TV shows. I loved him in the movie CRASH!! That is the movie in which he won the prestigious Screen Actors Guild and Critics' Choice Awards. He has a new song "Helluva Night" from his latest mix tape and is in the new movie "Fast and Furious 6". While he was recently doing press at the UMG headquarters, he stopped by my office to say hello. I was excited to learn his healthy secrets so we grabbed the camera to share them with you. Here is what I learned from the witty Ludacris......
The big Wanderlust event, Yoga in the City, Los Angeles, was an absolute blast!! I was TRULY honored to be invited to host the all day event that included the best teachers in Los Angeles!
We literally took over the Santa Monica pier with 1,000's of yogis plus amazing healthy food and drinks. A special shout out to my friends at LYFE Kitchen for not only feeding me for the day but sending me home with a care package that will keep me eating healthy and delicious food for awhile. Also, thank you to my wonderful friends at LuluLemon for the great outfit. I LOVE my new Wonder Under yoga pants.
During the event, there were three yoga classes: starting with Bryan Kest and Cristi Christensen. Bryan took everyone through a powerful and grounding meditation, then Christi kicked it into high gear with her fantastic energy and incredible workout. The next class was taught by Mia Togo and Ashley Turner. They are the kind of women I respect and would like to hang out with on the weekend. I love their energy, message and philosophy. Their class was just like them....beautiful and inspiring.
The final class turned into a giant dance party. It started with the arm balance king, Brock Cahill, aka the gravity cowboy. The class was then taken to another level when MC Yogi and DJ Drez took the stage. Not only was MC Yogi hysterical to hang out with, it was clear his energy spread to the students as they where all on their feet dancing and singing.
The entire day was magical. The energy of the festival and the crowd was fantastic. It was clear that everyone who showed up was doing something healthy and fun for their body, mind and spirit. What a day!! Be sure and catch next year's Yoga in the City, LA. I will definitely be back!!
